In May 2005 Bologna Fiere S.p.A., within the initiative MARKITEKTURE, realised during the 2005 edition of the CERSAIE review, announced the Concorso Nazionale di Progettazione “Ceramica e Riqualificazione Urbana” (National Design Competition "Urban Requalification and Ceramic"), aimed at developing new urban architectural solutions through the use of Italian ceramic tile. The communes of Bologna, Genoa, Rimini, Sassuolo and Verona signalled the urban sectors to be requilified, become the purpose of the Competition.
The Commune of Sassuolo proposed the requalification of the square in front of the secondary school “G. Pascoli”, a small residue space obtained from the moving back of the school front, compared to the street edge. The requests of the assignee were, in particular: the reformulation of the trampling floor, interventions of urban furnishing, the reorganisation of the existing services and the addition of parking areas.
The feasible project was filed in November 2007 and in December 2008 the public space was launched.
